For the longest time, dogs have been the most amazing companions for humans. Apart from loving dogs and getting infinite love and loyalty from them, there are so many interesting facts about them that are worth knowing. 1. Every puppy is born deaf

Yes, you read that right. Since their ear canals are closed, they are born deaf and they start developing hearing sense only after 2 weeks. They are also born blind with their eyelids closed and use their sense of smell to find their mom and move around.

2. Dalmatian puppies are born with no spots

Remember the movie 101 Dalmatians? If you recollect, the dalmatian puppies that are born in that movie are shown white, much like in real life. Their spots start to develop when they are 2 to 3 weeks old.

3. Dog’s align with the earth’s magnetic field when pooping

Under normal circumstances and conditions, a dog prefers aligning itself to the north-south axis when pooping. The reason why they move around after coming close to their perfect spot is that they are trying to align themselves with the north-south axis.

4. All dogs have unique nose prints

While humans have unique fingerprints, a dog’s nose prints are used to identify them since they are all unique. Each dog has a different pattern of bridges and ridges on their noses which makes them exclusive.

5. A Beatles song has a special sound that only dogs can hear

Remember hearing rumours about this? They were true! The song is called ‘A Day in the Life’ and it has a special soundtrack that only dogs can hear. The sound has a high frequency, at 15 Kilohertz which humans cannot hear. Well, we can’t confirm what the sound is but do play the song for your dog. The name of the album is Sgt Pepper.

6. Three out of Twelve dogs on board the Titanic survived

The doomed ship that saw an ill-fate actually had 12 dogs out of which 3 survived. Amongst the ones that survived were 2 Pomeranians and 1 Pekingese.

7. More than 7000 dogs are registered to come at Amazon’s Headquarters in Seatle

The ‘Bring your dog to work’ is a popular Amazon tradition. On any given day, Amazon’s office has dogs playing around while the employees feel happier at work with their presence. It all started when a Corgi named Rufus was brought to the office by the parents and one of the first few pages were launched by his Paw’s click. Ever since then, Amazon has been a dog-friendly page. Interestingly, if you land on any of Amazon’s 404 pages, it introduces you to one of their many dogs.

8. The sense of smell of a bloodhound can be used  as court evidence

Even if tracks are over 300 hours old, bloodhounds can follow them. They can follow a trail for more than 100 miles. With a strong sense of smell, they can remember smells for many days.

9. Dogs have three eyelids

Known as a nictitating membrane, a dog’s third eyelid is usually hidden. If you want to see it, you will have to observe your dog’s eye closely. In the inner corner of the eye, you’ll be able to see a triangular part which is the third eyelid. This third eyelid helps in protecting and lubricating your dog’s eyes.

10. Dogs can smell feelings

Yup, your adorable pooch can sense several feelings. A dog’s sense of smell is approximately 40 times better than that of humans. They can sense feelings of fear or anxiety and when trained, they can comfort and ease their owners.

11. Spiked collars were invented for a reason

If a predator were to attack a dog, it is most likely that it would attack the dog’s neck and throat. Spiked collars were first invented by farmers in ancient Greece to help protect their dogs from attacks by wolves or other predators.

12. Dogs can be trained a certain way to detect cancer

We were as amazed as you when we came across this fact. Under this method of training, they are made to sniff out samples of people with and without cancer. This training is usually based on odour.

13. The tallest dog in the world stood 7 feet 5.5 inches tall on hind legs

Freddy, the Great Dane, held a Guinness World Record in 2016 for being the tallest dog. He measured 1.118m which is approximately 44 inches and weighed around 70 Kgs. He belonged to a family in the US. He was also a certified therapy dog who used to visit patients in nearby hospitals.

14. They can learn and remember places

It is a known fact that dogs have an amazing memory. With that same skill, you can also train them to remember places around your house. Try placing their favourite treat in the kitchen, take them to some other room and then give them a command using the word ‘kitchen’ in it. Repeat this a few times and then switch your place and repeat the same. After a few days, they’ll start recognizing the word kitchen and remember it.

15. The oldest dog ever, lived for 29 years

An Australian cattle-dog named Bluey holds the record for being the oldest dog ever. She was 29 Years and 5 Months old when she was laid to rest. She lived in Rochester, located in Victoria, Australia.
